The bathroom vanity is the most functional piece of furniture in the room — used twice a day, every day, by everyone in the house. Which makes it one of the most important things to get right, and one of the most overlooked in typical renovations.
Why custom vanities outperform stock
Stock vanities are designed to sell at a price point. That means compromises in box construction, drawer quality, finish durability, and available sizes. A bathroom that's 61 inches wide gets a 60-inch vanity with an inch of awkward gap, or a 54-inch vanity floating in space.
A custom vanity fills the space exactly, uses materials appropriate for a high-humidity environment, and is built with the same drawer hardware and construction standards as our kitchen cabinetry.
Designing your open shelf
Floating vs. floor-standing. Floating (wall-hung) vanities read as lighter and more contemporary, make floors easier to clean, and can be set at any height — a meaningful benefit in households with people of different heights, or as an accessibility consideration. Floor-standing vanities have a more substantial, furniture-like presence and are sometimes structurally simpler to install depending on wall construction.
Wood species and moisture resistance. Not all wood performs equally in a bathroom environment. Teak is naturally moisture-resistant. Properly finished white oak performs well. Rift-sawn cuts are more dimensionally stable than flat-sawn. We typically recommend either a fully painted/lacquered finish (which seals the wood completely) or a penetrating oil with regular maintenance for natural wood looks.
Storage layout. Deep drawers beat doors and shelves for bathroom storage — items stay visible and accessible. We typically configure: one shallow top drawer for daily-use items, two deeper drawers below, and one full-height cabinet for tall items. The exact configuration responds to what you actually store.
Countertop integration. We work with your stone fabricator or can recommend one — coordinating the undermount sink cutout, faucet hole placement, and edge profile with the vanity design is smoother when millwork and stone are planned together.
Timeline and process
Custom bathroom vanities typically run 6–10 weeks from approved drawings to installation. We handle delivery and installation ourselves, including final adjustments on site.

What sets custom vanities apart
The difference becomes clear in the details. A custom bathroom vanity is built to your exact wall-to-wall dimensions — no filler strips, no awkward gaps. Drawer boxes are dovetail-jointed solid wood, not staple-and-glue particleboard. Finishes are applied in a controlled shop environment, not brushed on site with a roller.
We use Blum Tandembox drawer systems in our bathroom vanities — the same hardware we use in kitchens. Push-to-open or standard pull options. Integrated soft-close on every drawer and door.
Moisture and humidity: what you need to know
Bathrooms are harsh environments for wood products. Here's how we address it:
Finish. A fully lacquered or painted finish seals wood against moisture penetration. For natural wood vanities, we recommend a penetrating finish with regular maintenance (Rubio Monocoat performs well in bathroom applications when properly applied).
Construction. We use moisture-resistant MDF or Baltic birch plywood for cabinet boxes — never particleboard, which swells on contact with water.
Ventilation. A bathroom with adequate ventilation is gentler on all surfaces, including millwork. We always ask about exhaust fan capacity before specifying certain materials.
Process and timeline
Custom bathroom vanities typically run 6–10 weeks from approved drawings to installation. We handle removal of the existing vanity, installation of the new one, and coordination with your plumber for sink and faucet reconnection (plumbing work is subcontracted to a licensed plumber).
